Diversity and Inclusion Across Ages, Cultures and Campaigns

The fashion industry is increasingly embracing diversity, moving beyond traditional beauty standards to represent people of different ages, cultures, and backgrounds.

Representation of Different Ages

In recent years, the industry has begun celebrating age diversity. Brands like Dior, Céline, and Dolce & Gabbana have featured older models, challenging the youth-focused culture of fashion. Advanced Style, a blog and book by Ari Seth Cohen, also highlights the unique fashion sense of older women, proving that style is ageless.

Cultural Inclusivity and Representation

Designers like Prabal Gurung and Hanifa founder Anifa Mvuemba are using their platforms to promote cultural diversity. Gurung frequently spotlights underrepresented Asian communities, while Hanifa showcases African culture through modern, luxurious designs, shattering stereotypes in high fashion.

Runway Inclusivity

Models like Halima Aden, the first to walk major runways wearing a hijab, are breaking barriers for Muslim women in fashion. Kim Jones’ work with Fendi has furthered racial and cultural inclusivity by collaborating with diverse artists and featuring models from various backgrounds.

Inclusive Marketing Campaigns

Brands like Nike and Aerie are setting new standards with inclusive marketing. Nike’s campaigns celebrate body positivity, racial diversity, and gender inclusivity. Aerie’s “Real” campaign features unretouched photos of diverse models, promoting self-acceptance for all body types and abilities.

These examples reflect the growing movement within the fashion industry to embrace diversity and inclusion across various dimensions—be it size, race, gender, ability, age, or culture—making fashion more accessible and representative of all people. At Ayana Active, we are all in on this movement. Our clothing is meant to inspire and compliment women of any size, age or race who are seeking confidence in modest clothing.

What is Lorem Ipsum? Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum. Why do we use it? It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
