My Journey Back to the Runway
Several years ago, I stood under the bright lights of Project Runway, presenting a fully modest collection that challenged norms and sparked conversations. It was a defining moment—not just for me, but for the modest fashion movement. But after that, my path took a different turn.
I didn’t leave fashion, but I stepped away from the runway to build something even more meaningful: Ayana Active. I wanted to create a brand that blends modesty, performance, and sustainability in a way the industry hadn’t seen before. But to do that, I knew I needed to expand my knowledge—not just in design, but in business, global markets, and sustainability.
Learning Beyond the Runway
After Project Runway, I took a step that would reshape my entire approach to fashion: I went to business school in Italy. Immersing myself in a country known for its craftsmanship, heritage, and luxury fashion opened my eyes to the depth of the industry. But what impacted me the most was learning about sustainability.
Sustainability wasn’t just a trend; it was a responsibility. I saw firsthand how materials, production processes, and ethical business practices could shape not just a brand, but the future of fashion itself. That knowledge completely shifted my perspective. I didn’t just want to design clothing—I wanted to design with purpose.

Returning With a Mission
Over the past several years, I’ve been building Ayana Active with that mission in mind. I’ve worked to source eco-conscious fabrics, create ethical production models, and design pieces that align with both modesty and sustainability. I’ve grown not just as a designer, but as an entrepreneur, learning how to navigate the complexities of launching a brand while staying true to my values.
But even with everything I was creating, I still felt the pull of the runway. Fashion isn’t just about garments—it’s about storytelling. And after years of designing behind the scenes, it’s time to step forward again.
Back to the Runway
Now, I’m bringing everything I’ve learned—from New York to Italy, from business school to brand-building—back to where it all began: the runway. This April, I’ll be showcasing my work at Modest Fashion Week in Abu Dhabi.
But this time, it’s bigger than just a collection. It’s about evolution. It’s about proving that stepping away isn’t the end of the journey—it’s a way to grow, refine, and come back stronger.

I’ll be sharing more of my experience with you along the way—the challenges, the lessons, and the moments that make this journey so special. Because this isn’t just about me—it’s about every woman who has ever had to pause, pivot, and redefine her path.
Fashion isn’t just what I do. It’s who I am. And when I walk that runway, I’ll be walking for every woman who dares to dream, adapt, and step into her next chapter with confidence.
Let’s do this together.
